TuneBase – updated photos

Front and back photos, showing bamboo supports.

Hacking a TuneBase

OK, so I got a hopefully srl-proof case, an IceFrame from Extreme Mac for my nano. Problem: the dock connector is recessed. I picked up a Belkin TuneBase for Mini which is almost perfect except for the connector.. so, I pulled the connector out a bit. Works great.. also, I glued some bamboo skewers to the back of it to make a support (less stress for the connector). I’m going to make some kind of foam rubber ring around the connector also, so that un-iceboxed iPods (mini and nano) can also work in the car. more photos here

WHAT IF TOMORROW

THIS MESS COULD BE OVER

We are running four wires: 8 gauge power (red), USB 2.0 (silver), and two STP cat 5e (gray) . it’s running underneath the carpet along the passenger’s side of the car.

Here you can see the wires running under the front passenger’s side.

and then between the front and back it will run under the center beam

my car looking like it is being vandalized.. no, just a midnight wiring job..

back seat – minus seat.

wires coming out underneath the right rear passenger. blueish wire (dark) is the CD changer – it was my guide and example.

seatbelt mechanism behind the passenger

wire installed in split loom

going into the split loom

the view behind the right rear passenger’s seat. loom entering the grommet

and the view between the seats and the trunk. Yes.. that is the fuel fill.

trying to strap the loom to the wall. I ended up running the loom behind this wall (to the right) , between the FM antenna and the outer body wall. I also may have shorted something to that bundle of wires you see with the spiral tape on it. Unplugged everything, will check it in the morning.

gtech

this past weekend we tried out the Gtech Pro Performance Meter which the Manufacturer says can measure:
0-60 time ±1/10th/sec, 60-0 braking distance ±2ft, 1/4 mile ET ± 1/10 second, 1/4 mile speed ± 1 mph, Horsepower ±3HP, Instantaneous G’s ± 2/100th of G, Continuous G’s ± 2/100th G. Pretty accurate little box.

bumper to bumper

current thinking on the car is to run armored liquid-tight conduit from the trunk to the dash area, underneath the car. Want to get something large enough to pass a USB cable, cat-5, and a ICOM 306 remote cable through. Power will probably go separate- maybe not, though.
